The knives were removed during dis-assembly for the safety benefit of the timing of the loopers. Everything went fine with three threads and the needle; then four threads with two needles. She was satisfied with near-perfect stitch patterns. But when the knives were re-installed, everything went haywire! See attached picture. Do you have any advice at this point?
Also, she needs to know what lubricant to use with a metal gear meshing with a nylon looper gear in the gearbox. She removed the old grease from the gears and applied the Singer gear lubricant temporarily. By comparison, it seems to be too light a lubricant to replace the heavier grease.

re. Elna Supermatic CL 62 sewing machine
re. Elna Supermatic CL 62 sewing machine
I have what seems to be problem which can be fixed but then occurs months or years later.
When machine is plugged in the feet go up and down.
Resister has been mentioned
If you have the manual would it answer this please.
To employ another technician at todays rates would mean I could buy a new machine
I'm old, I like my elna and can't justify a new machine
May not be your area but any input really apprecicate

memory craft 8000 stepping motor error
When the Janome 8000 is turned on, one of the first things that it does is run the stepper motors to return the embroidery carriage back to its original position.
The computer in the Janome needs to know when the embroidery carriage is back in the correct position and to do so, it uses a sensor.
If the sensor fails, it does not know that the carriage is back in the correct position.
When the sensor fails, what happens is that the stepper motor keeps running even though the embroidery carriage is fully back, so what you hear is a horrible grinding sound. The grinding sound itself is nothing to worry about, actually it is good news, it means that the stepper motor is fine.
Janome in their infinite wisdom decided that whether the motor failed or the sensor failed, that they would simply say on the screen that the stepper motor failed.
I have repaired a machine with this problem, in my case it turned out that the sensor was okay, but someone had damaged the main circuit board, breaking the track from the sensor to the computer.
Unfortunately, I don't know if this sort of repair is something that the average repairman can take care of. I am an electronics engineer, so thats why it wasn't a problem for me.
I just thought some extra information on what is going on might give you a head start in getting some one to fix it for you.
